Daily Scripture Meditation for the month of May:

IMG 8243-copy-920x400

1st Day - Nahum 1:7

Nah. 1:7     The LORD is good,

a refuge in times of trouble.

  He cares for those who trust in him,...

2nd Day - Romans 3:21-26

Rom. 3:21     But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26 he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

3rd Day - 1 John 5:11-13

1 John 5:11     And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

1John 5:13     I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

4th Day - Romans 14:9-13

Rom. 14:9     For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. 10 You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. 11 It is written:

  “ ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord,

‘every knee will bow before me;

every tongue will confess to God.’”

12 So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

Rom. 14:13     Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way.

5th Day - Psalm 117:1,2 (Suggested by Nathan McNally)

Psa. 117:1     Praise the LORD, all you nations;

extol him, all you peoples.

2 For great is his love toward us,

and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever.

  Praise the LORD.

6th Day - Matthew 6:28-34

Matt. 6:28     “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

7th Day - Psalm 34:4-7

Psa. 34:4     I sought the LORD, and he answered me;

he delivered me from all my fears.

5 Those who look to him are radiant;

their faces are never covered with shame.

6 This poor man called, and the LORD heard him;

he saved him out of all his troubles.

7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him,

and he delivers them.

8th Day - Revelation 21:1-5

Rev. 21:1    Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Rev. 21:5     He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

9th Day - 1 Peter 5:5-7

1Pet. 5:5     Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,

  “God opposes the proud

but gives grace to the humble.”

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

10th Day - Psalm 94:16-19

Psa. 94:16     Who will rise up for me against the wicked?

Who will take a stand for me against evildoers?

17 Unless the LORD had given me help,

I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.

18 When I said, “My foot is slipping,”

your love, O LORD, supported me.

19 When anxiety was great within me,

your consolation brought joy to my soul.

11th Day - John 14:15-17

John 14:15     “If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

12th Day - Isaiah 55:7-9

Is. 55:7     Let the wicked forsake his way

and the evil man his thoughts.

  Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him,

and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

Is. 55:8     “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

neither are your ways my ways,”

declares the LORD.

Is. 55:9     “As the heavens are higher than the earth,

so are my ways higher than your ways

and my thoughts than your thoughts.

13th Day - Proverbs 1:20-23

Prov. 1:20      Wisdom calls aloud in the street,

she raises her voice in the public squares;

21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out,

in the gateways of the city she makes her speech:

Prov. 1:22     “How long will you simple ones love your simple ways?

How long will mockers delight in mockery

and fools hate knowledge?

23 If you had responded to my rebuke,

I would have poured out my heart to you

and made my thoughts known to you.

14th Day - Acts 5:33-39

Acts 5:33     When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to put them to death. 34 But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while. 35 Then he addressed them: “Men of Israel, consider carefully what you intend to do to these men. 36 Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him. He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it all came to nothing. 37 After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too was killed, and all his followers were scattered. 38 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”

15th Day - Isaiah 41:9,10

Is. 41:9     I took you from the ends of the earth,

from its farthest corners I called you.

  I said, ‘You are my servant’;

I have chosen you and have not rejected you.

Is. 41:10     So do not fear, for I am with you;

do not be dismayed, for I am your God.

  I will strengthen you and help you;

I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

16th Day - 1 John 4:7-11

1John 4:7     Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

17th Day - Matthew 18:10-14

Matt. 18:10     See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

Matt. 18:12     “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? 13 And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.

18th Day - Genesis 1:1

Gen. 1:1    In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

19th Day - 1 Corinthians 2:6-10

1Cor. 2:6     We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 However, as it is written:

“No eye has seen,

no ear has heard,

no mind has conceived

what God has prepared for those who love him”—

10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.

20th Day - Proverbs 13:20

Prov. 13:20    He who walks with the wise grow wise,

but a companion of fools suffers harm.

21st day - 1 John 4:13-18

1John 4:13     We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

  God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. 17 In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

22nd Day - 1 John 4:19-21

1John 4:19     We love because he first loved us. 20 If anyone says, “I love God,” yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.

23rd Day - James 3:3-6

James 3:3     When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

24th Day - Philippians 1:3-9

Phil. 1:3     I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Phil. 1:7     It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me. 8 God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

Phil. 1:9     And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

25th Day - 1 Corinthians 13:1-7

Cor. 13:1    If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

1Cor. 13:4     Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

26th Day - 1 Corinthians 13:8-13

1Cor. 13:8     Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

1Cor. 13:13     And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

27th Day - Jonah 1:1-3

Jonah 1:1    The word of the LORD came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.”

Jonah 1:3     But Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the LORD.

28th Day - Jonah 1:17-2:10

Jonah 1:17     But the LORD provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights.

Jonah 2:1    From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God. 2 He said:

  “In my distress I called to the LORD,

and he answered me.

From the depths of the grave I called for help,

and you listened to my cry.

Jonah 2:3     You hurled me into the deep,

into the very heart of the seas,

and the currents swirled about me;

all your waves and breakers

swept over me.

Jonah 2:4     I said, ‘I have been banished

from your sight;

yet I will look again

toward your holy temple.’

Jonah 2:5     The engulfing waters threatened me,

the deep surrounded me;

seaweed was wrapped around my head.

Jonah 2:6     To the roots of the mountains I sank down;

the earth beneath barred me in forever.

  But you brought my life up from the pit,

O LORD my God.

Jonah 2:7     “When my life was ebbing away,

I remembered you, LORD,

and my prayer rose to you,

to your holy temple.

Jonah 2:8     “Those who cling to worthless idols

forfeit the grace that could be theirs.

Jonah 2:9     But I, with a song of thanksgiving,

will sacrifice to you.

  What I have vowed I will make good.

Salvation comes from the LORD.”

Jonah 2:10     And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

29th Day - Jonah 3:3-5

Jonah 3:3     Jonah obeyed the word of the LORD and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very important city—a visit required three days. 4 On the first day, Jonah started into the city. He proclaimed: “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned.” 5 The Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.

30th Day - Jonah 3:10-4:11

Jonah 3:10     When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction he had threatened.

Jonah 4:1    But Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry. 2 He prayed to the LORD, “O LORD, is this not what I said when I was still at home? That is why I was so quick to flee to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity. 3 Now, O LORD, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live.”

Jonah 4:4     But the LORD replied, “Have you any right to be angry?”

Jonah 4:5     Jonah went out and sat down at a place east of the city. There he made himself a shelter, sat in its shade and waited to see what would happen to the city. 6 Then the LORD God provided a vine and made it grow up over Jonah to give shade for his head to ease his discomfort, and Jonah was very happy about the vine. 7 But at dawn the next day God provided a worm, which chewed the vine so that it withered. 8 When the sun rose, God provided a scorching east wind, and the sun blazed on Jonah’s head so that he grew faint. He wanted to die, and said, “It would be better for me to die than to live.”

Jonah 4:9     But God said to Jonah, “Do you have a right to be angry about the vine?”

  “I do,” he said. “I am angry enough to die.”

Jonah 4:10     But the LORD said, “You have been concerned about this vine, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. 11 But Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?

31st Day1 Thessalonians 1:2-7

1Th. 1:2     We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. 3 We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

1Th. 1:4     For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, 5 because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. 6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. 7 And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.
